The Reality
It is an extremely lengthy and expensive operation
to restore and reforest mountainous regions.
DonateHere's the situation:
According to the Red Panda Network, it costs about $2,700 to purchase 1 hectare (2.47 acres) of private land for reforestation and maintained species protection.
One adult red panda requires 100 - 150 hectares (247 - 371 acres) to live. Which mean it cost between $270,000 - $405,000 to support a single panda.
Here is a breakdown of how donations typically help.
$250,000
Community & Nursery Foundations
- Establish forest nurseries
- Train first group of community forest guardians
- Initial land surveys and corridor mapping
$500,000
Core Habitat Protection Begins
- Secure first 100 hectares
- Anti-poaching patrol setup
- Native bamboo and tree propagation
Supporter Tier - $12
$10 can fund the planting of 24 native trees in Nepal’s biological corridors, as current 2026 red panda funds typically offer "2 trees for every $1".
$10 funds the planting of approximately 2–4 bamboo seedlings.
$2 affords Hygge Panda a tea supply increase of +13 grams of tea to offer, further increasing Hygge Panda's recurring contribution to the Red Panda.
Habitat at Risk
Red pandas depend on cool, connected mountain forests that are rapidly disappearing due to deforestation and climate change.
$750,000
Reforestation Expansion
- Planting of ~100,000 native trees
- Watershed and slope stabilization
- Wildlife camera and monitoring network
$1,000,000
Corridor Connectivity
- Restore forest links between fragmented habitats
- Support local sustainable livelihood programs
- Expand patrol and monitoring teams
$1,250,000
Mid-Scale Habitat Restoration
- 250 hectares under protection
- Firebreaks, water sources, and canopy restoration
- Community conservation education programs
Advocate Tier - $60
$50 covers the salary for a Forest Guardian for roughly 1–2 weeks to patrol for traps and monitor habitat health. This level often qualifies for a symbolic adoption and gift.
$50 funds a small "bamboo grove" of roughly 10–20 seedlings, helping restore degraded forest patches in reserves like Wolong or Tiantaishan.
$10 affords Hygge Panda a tea supply increase of +60 grams of tea to offer, further increasing Hygge Panda's recurring contribution to the Red Panda.

- 350 hectares restored
- Long-term forest management planning
- Increased red panda population monitoring
$1,750,000
Permanent Land Security
- Conservation easements or long-term leases
- Expansion of ranger and guardian employment
$2,000,000

Patron Tier - $120
$100 can fund the purchase of one "Herder Tent" for a local community member, reducing their reliance on timber for sheds and preserving old-growth forest.
$100 can restore nearly 0.05 hectares of bamboo forest, providing a sustainable, natural food source for wild and reintroduced pandas for decades to come.
$20 affords Hygge Panda a tea supply increase of +130 grams of tea to offer, further increasing Hygge Panda's recurring contribution to the Red Panda.

$2,250,000
Anti-Poaching & Climate Resilience
- Advanced patrol equipment
- Climate-resilient reforestation
- Community fire and landslide prevention systems
$2,500,000
10-Year Sustainability Endowment
- Long-term patrol funding
- Community-led stewardship programs
- Ongoing forest and wildlife monitoring
Hero Tier - $1,000
$830 can purchase approximately 1,700 to 2,000 bamboo seedlings.
$830 is sufficient to restore and plant roughly 0.2 acres (0.08 hectares) of high-density bamboo forest.
For wild release, funds are used to plant specific "tasty" varieties like Bounsweet and Indocalamus that are preferred by pandas in the Qinling and Wolong regions.
A significant portion of bamboo costs in 2026 is linked to transportation and fresh-harvesting.
$830 can cover the specialized refrigerated transport costs to move fresh bamboo from local farms to high-altitude research bases, closing "feeding gaps" when local supplies are dormant in winter.
$830 supports the management and watering of forest-base nurseries that acclimatize seedlings for the harsh conditions of high-altitude release sites.
$170 affords Hygge Panda a tea supply increase of +1,130 grams of tea to offer, further increasing Hygge Panda's recurring contribution to the Red Panda.
