LiShan is one of Taiwan's most coveted high-mountain oolongs — and Master Fang's garden sits at the upper end of that already rarefied world. At over 1,800 meters in the Zhengli Mountain area, the elevation isn't just a detail. It's the reason the tea exists the way it does. Cooler temperatures, slower growth, leaves that develop more slowly and with more complexity than anything grown at sea level.

At this height, the tea even earns a different name. Locally, any tea grown within the Zhengli Mountain area above 1,800 meters earns the designation "Zhengli Mountain tea" rather than the broader LiShan label — a provenance distinction the way Champagne has to come from Champagne.

Master Fang describes what you'll find in the cup: "From a light fragrance to a mature fragrance — fruit, floral, and sweet — the bitterness and astringency are low, followed by a pleasant aftertaste. Neither burnt nor agitated."

He adds: "Producing a good quality tea at elevation is not merely a matter of cost and time. It's all about the mindset one has when striving to create an excellent tea."

This is a tea that rewards patience. Brew it gently and give it a few steeps before you decide anything about it.
