Harvested in 2012 and slowly matured under carefully controlled humidity, this Liu Bao has undergone more than a decade of natural post-fermentation. During aging, microbial activity transforms the leaf chemistry, softening sharp edges and converting bright, green compounds into deeper, rounder aromatics.

Over time, the tea develops the hallmark Liu Bao profile: clean earth, camphor, aged wood, and dried Chinese herbs. The slow oxidation and fermentation create a tea that is warming and grounding, with remarkable smoothness and depth.

Early infusions are mellow and sweet with notes of sandalwood, dried longan, and forest floor. As the session progresses, darker tones of cocoa, old books, and medicinal herbs emerge, carried on a thick, silky body that coats the mouth and lingers with a cooling, camphor-like finish.

Our Offering

Depth and tradition come together in this limited-harvest Liu Bao Dark Tea.

Produced in Guangxi, China, and aged under controlled humidity, each leaf develops the signature smoothness, mineral depth, and clean earthiness that make this tea timeless.

Background of the tea

Liu Bao has been crafted in Guangxi Province for over a thousand years and is considered the origin of post-fermented teas like Pu’er. Once valued as a restorative drink for travelers and workers, it’s now cherished for its rich, mellow body and natural grounding effect.

Our 2025 batch comes directly from a family workshop known for producing clean, well-balanced dark teas - smooth, never musty - the mark of careful aging and honest craft.
